How to make homemade plasticine for children in 5 minutes and without cooking

On the Internet you will find many recipes for homemade plasticine. This is an adaptation that is made totally cold totally. Neither cooking nor hot water. It takes minutes and kids can play with it right away. In addition, it is a 100% biodegradable plasticine.

Another advantage is thatyou can make it more or less soft according to your preference, simply adding a little more oil.

For younger children, softer play dough is suitable so that they can crush with the hand and sink their fingers more easily. It has a lot of salt, so by reflex if they get the play dough in their mouths, they will spit it out quickly. Anyway, if they swallow a little, nothing happens because its ingredients are edible: flour, salt, water and oil.

It keeps for a long time well covered.

A couple of clarifications before we get to the recipe:

  1. As a cup I use a cup that carries what a pot of yogurt. The amount you make depends on the number of children you have and their age, of course.
  2. Oil is the key. For that well, I usetwo and a half tablespoons of oil but it depends on the brand of flour as well. My advice is that you start with a couple of tablespoons, knead and add more if you need. If you put too much oil, your hands will get a bit sticky and the next day there will be loose oil in the container where you keep it. Nothing serious. Put a napkin to absorb it and continue playing with the clay. The texture will be softer but you will find new ways to play safely.
  3. To make shapes we haveplasticine molds and pasta cutters. The good thing about pasta cutters is that you can use them in the kitchen to make cookies or shapes in the bread for the little ones. They are very easy to find and cheap.
  4. Rollers, knives, spoons and forks (made of plastic or wood) they give a lot of play although they are not essential.

  • food coloring (optional), I have not tried watercolors, finger paint or the like but I guess they would be worth it.
