The future of sustainable transport does not depend on technology

Almost daily we hear about the launch of a new electric vehicle or advances in battery technology. Yet are all these innovations moving us closer to a truly sustainable transportation system?

A new article in the Journal for Cleaner Production addresses this question, looking at the progress in research done over the past 20 years. The study aimed to identify key achievements, as well as gaps that need to be addressed in the future.

By analyzing more than 800 publications, the researchers suggest that a strategic perspective on transport sustainability is emerging, with a focus on indicators, policies and supply chains. Factors such as stakeholder engagement and traveler behaviors are also increasingly being considered.
