Insufflation, a name that sounds technical and could make us stop reading immediately, were it not that we would lose the opportunity to know what could be the solution for the temperature and energy expenditure that reign in our apartment.
When theinsufflation a kind of "Virtual insulation panel" taking advantage of the existing air chamber and the effect is very similar to what we would get if we made a thermal coat. Very similar and not identical because it should be noted that the blowing is not as effective as its competitor when it comes to problems inherent to thermal bridges, however, this should not make us discard this option a priori, since this solution is achievable quickly and at a low price, but isolates itapartment keeping it habitable.
The insufflaggi are in effect one easy, economical and energetically efficient solution, not new but that many have forgotten. Perhaps this is also why it is interesting to explore this opportunity that could encourage many to do interventions of insulation of opaque vertical structures, to date very rare even if in truth they are those that guarantee a better result and a better duration over time.
To understand, I refer to thermal coats and isolation, neglected by those who instead opt today for the redevelopment of fixtures not being aware of the fact that they will obtain a less lasting result.
It is not automatic that, having the house full of walls, theInsufflation, a practice to be avoided if we notice cracks or moisture infiltrations. Another precaution to keep in mind concerns the control to detect the presence of any obstructions: they could prevent us from filling the cavity homogeneously. Precisely for this reason it is better that every time we take a photo, we look to see if everything is in place or something will hinder theInsufflation.
The insufflation concerns thecavity because it is in this area that we insert the insulating material after the “test” holes to make sure that there are no obstructions. Usually they are made on the perimeter walls of an apartment with a diameter of 5-10 centimeters every 1.5 meters, about 50 centimeters from the floors and ceilings.
We can choose to proceed from inside or outside, it depends a lot on the location of the apartment and the surrounding conditions, as well as on the time we have. Then there is one blowing machine which takes care of introducing the insulating material in the interspace, we just have to cover the hole with putty.
So far we have talked about "Insulating material", because from time to time it is necessary to evaluate what is right for the case, at home, ours. It depends on some technical characteristics of the house and on the natural ones of the material that is proposed to us. When making this choice, in addition to pay attention to efficiency and at the price, it is good to look at how much the material we want to put around it has an impact on the environment. We can get advice from a expert in green building.
The polystyrene it is one of the most common choices but certainly not the best, moreover it is not good at all if we have flues in the house, we can also opt for cellulose fibers inertized and recycled from secondary raw materials: a much greener choice.
The options for l are not over'Insufflation at our disposal, we can also think of making it with cork or with perlite, with flaked glass wool produced by glass recycling, or rock wool, or with expanded clay. For cork are meant i cork granules and without a doubt they are a good idea but let's not proceed before having thoroughly investigated with the technicians, the characteristics of the materials and the house on which we want to do some work.
Another idea forInsufflation is that relating to the use of cellulose or better than that natural insulation made with cellulosic fibers that can be obtained from a simple recycled newspaper. Those who have chosen this route seem satisfied with the warmth they can enjoy between the walls of the house, post-blowing.
One of the advantages ofInsufflation lies in the fact that, being quite simple, it can also be done "do it yourself" and there are examples that reach high levels of efficiency. It is not necessary to be in the trade and not even have one at home blowing machine: it can be rented and who knows that in the next few years there will be a deduction for the expenses of doing self-work for increase the energy efficiency of your home contributing to reduce CO2 emissions.
The costs of an intervention are always a problem, be it Insufflation or something else, because it is necessary to support them but even before that it is necessary to know how to evaluate them by inserting them in a context that looks to rather long time horizons.
The cost of external thermal coats in apartment buildings, for example, often discourages us, l'Insufflation has the advantage the fact that it can also be built in a single apartment even if the neighbors disagree or opt for other independent solutions.
To give an example of prices forInsufflation we can consider about 100 walkable square meters of apartment with three “external” sides which would require 10 cubic meters of insulating material. If we choose cellulosic fiber insulation, we could spend just over 2,000 euros and the 65% deduction can also be applied, which helps us break even earlier.
The maintenance costs are almost nil, once the insufflation is done, it lasts for many years, almost forever. When we estimate the costs, a parameter to keep in mind and that can escape, when thinking about the quantity of material to be inserted, is the width of the interspace which is not standard but can even vary from 5 cm to 25 cm.
