Cobat, in full National Collection and Recycling Consortium, is today one of the main players in Italy in waste management. Those who belong to it know well what it means to be able to use the services it offers, the kind of services that have a strong impact on the environment, in a good way, but which have little media impact. This is why we have chosen to tell what it is and what it does.
Cobat: what is it
It is a private law consortium, not for profit, which for over twenty years has represented a system for the collection, treatment and recycling of waste batteries and accumulators, as recognized by Article 20 of Legislative Decree 188/08 in implementation of Community Directive 2006/66 / EC.
Let's imagine how a multi-chain able to offer Producers / Importers an integrated service which convinces many perplexed subjects by the many difficult passages to face independently, ad adopt green behaviors.
Cobat guarantees one correct management of the end of life of products released for consumption, its members can thus breathe a sigh of relief: the consortium takes care of managing all this, they can cheer up, they will not harm the environment and at the same time they will not have to do stunts to prevent their waste from polluting.
Cobat has evolved over time and if at first it was only concerned of batteries and accumulators, today it also takes care of other types of waste, such as WEEE, end-of-life tires and, just them, photovoltaic modules. This last point is very important to underline, first of all because it is not obvious, but also because it underlines how the consortium has been able to keep up with the times.
Cobat: what is it for
What Cobat does concretely for its members is simple and difficult at the same time. Guarantees the constant monitoring of their activities in the peninsula and a complete control of the supply chain, from production to the start of waste recycling. Through a portal it ensures to those who use it that everything will be done in full compliance with the law.
Each, therefore, by accessing the dedicated web area, can manage environmental declarations and collection orders and monitor what is released for consumption, from the early stages of the sale to the final recovery.
All operations that without help would become non-trivial to carry out or very expensive, especially in terms of time. Instead, with Cobat we can be sure of having the total traceability of waste that we produce and have a person alongside to ask for support and assistance.
The winning points of this reality, which has been operating for decades, are legality, efficiency and sustainability, for this third point that is particularly close to my heart, I specify that as citizens we owe a lot to a Consortium like this even if it is not directly connected to it. In fact, it avoids the dispersion of waste and ensures that they are treated with innovative techniques so that they harm our planet as little as possible.
Today we can count over 700 companies who have decided to belong to Cobat to make their contribution to a more sustainable present and future. This means that the consortium every year it deals with 180,000 tons of input material accompanying him at the end of his life. By giving their contribution to the environment, through Cobat, each company polishes its image by being able to say loudly that it is not one of those who don't give a damn by using the territory as its own personal landfill.
The treatment and recovery plants are scattered almost everywhere throughout the country in a rather homogeneous and widespread way because Cobat wants to guarantee high quality standards without making differences between North and South, Peninsula and Islands, East or West.
The plants are only a part, the most evident, of what Cobas offers, but the IT part is very important to monitor what happens to the waste entrusted.
In the consultation area there are the data, personal data and authorizations that need to be kept, in the more "live" area there is instead continuously updated information on what is happening to the loads of waste entrusted to the storage facilities of Cobat points or similar.
