Gerbera, one of the most popular flowers appreciated by those who love nature, even aesthetically beautiful. The gerbera is suitable for decorating, furnishing apartments, brings color and cheer to balconies and also in flower beds or in large gardens. It does not create monotonous flower spots but with this plant it is possible composing mosaics of petals since it is available in many shades and colors. There are also varieties with it long stem, usually chosen for flower arrangements.
Gerbera: flower
Before the flower appears, there are thick rosettes of green leaves, with a leathery appearance and not at all attractive, they gradually widen and only in late spring do the flowers appear and then remain until the beginning of winter. It makes us wait for the stable and pleasant climate of the summer to bloom, but then the gerbera does it generously as well as beautiful. Native to tropical areas and the equatorial belts, passing from Asia to Africa and Latin America, gerbera is now present almost everywhere in about 30 different species from which hybrids have been created up to a few thousand types of flower, all perfect. Jamsonii and viridiflora are the most common species, the name of the Gerbera derives from that of a German naturalist who devoted a lot of time and various studies to these flowers.
Gerberas: cultivation
In Europe, gerbera has been cultivated since late nineteenth century even if it is not native to our continent. Over the years many hybrids have been born, almost always used to obtain cut flowers because the long stem and the shape so appreciated are very popular.
Who wants to cultivate the gerbera must place it in a bright and sunny place and check that there is never water stagnation, one of the problems this flower suffers most. Yellow is particularly bright, often it is confused with orange but there are also orange gerberas. They all have elongated petals distributed in corollas that can be single or double.

It's a quite delicate flower, even if widespread. Its enemies are aphids, the red spider mite, and the rot that can be created around the roots. Who wants to grow this plant starting from seeds can buy one pack of 30 online at 1.14 euros.
Gerbera: diseases
Gerbera is a fairly robust plant and usually parasites and insects they stay away from her and leave her alone. If by chance it is attacked by aphids, these are creatures that can be eliminated with a good specific insecticide or with biological control. The real problem with gerbera are the fungal attacks that can really kill her. If this flower is found in environments with very high ambient humidity, lack of ventilation and brightness, it can get sick and die from an attack of this kind.
